Amanda Knox Loses Appeal, Remains Convicted of Slander
Former Perugia murder suspect's defamation case upheld
Knox has been embroiled in a legal battle since her roommate's murder in 2007
American Amanda Knox has lost her appeal to overturn a slander conviction in Italy. The court in Florence reconvicted Knox, 16 years after the murder of her flatmate Meredith Kercher.
Knox was initially convicted of murder in 2009 but was exonerated on appeal in 2011. However, she was found guilty of slandering police officer Giuliano Mignini during a 2013 TV interview.
The slander conviction stemmed from Knox's claims that Mignini had pressured her into falsely confessing to the murder. Mignini denied the allegations.
Knox's supporters have criticized the slander conviction, arguing that it was politically motivated and an attempt to silence her.
