Euro 2024: Poland Hold France to Draw
Tight Match Ends in Stalemate
Poland Hold France to Draw
In a tense match, Poland held France to a 1-1 draw in their UEFA Euro 2024 Group D clash on Tuesday. Poland's Piotr Zielinski gave his team the lead in the 38th minute, but France's Kylian Mbappé equalized just minutes later. The result leaves both teams level on points in the group, with Poland sitting in second place due to a better goal difference.
The match was a tight affair, with both teams creating chances. Poland had the better of the first half and deservedly took the lead. Zielinski's goal came after a flowing move down the left flank. He collected a pass from Robert Lewandowski and drove into the box before firing a low shot into the bottom corner.
France responded well to going behind and were level within five minutes. Mbappé latched onto a loose pass from Bednarek and raced through on goal. He calmly slotted the ball past Wojciech Szczesny to make it 1-1.
The second half was more evenly matched, with both teams having chances to win the game. Poland had a great opportunity to take the lead in the 65th minute, but Lewandowski's shot was well saved by Hugo Lloris. France also had their chances, but they were unable to find a winning goal.
The draw means that both Poland and France are now on four points in the group. Poland are in second place due to a better goal difference, with France sitting in third. Both teams will be confident of reaching the knockout stages, but they will need to improve their performances if they want to challenge for the title.
