Switzerland beat Hungary to start Euro 2024 with a win
First-half goals from Kwadwo Duah and Michel Aebischer set Switzerland on course for a crucial victory in their opening match of Euro 2024.
The match was played in front of a crowd of 25,000 at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne, Germany.
Switzerland started the match brightly and took the lead in the 18th minute when Duah fired home from close range after good work from Xherdan Shaqiri.
Aebischer doubled the lead in the 33rd minute with a header from a Granit Xhaka corner.
Hungary improved after the break but could not find a way back into the game.
The victory gives Switzerland a great start to their Euro 2024 campaign and will give them confidence for their next match against Portugal on Wednesday.
For Hungary, it is a disappointing start to the tournament and they will need to improve if they are to progress to the knockout stages.
