Sir Lindsay Hoyle urges people to talk about mental health

The deputy speaker of the House of Commons has said he is truly devastated by the death of his daughter

The Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, has shared his grief and urged people to talk about mental health after his daughter took her own life.

Sir Lindsay broke down in tears as he recalled his daughter's suicide during a speech at the launch of a new mental health campaign.

"I lost my daughter to suicide last year," he said. "It's the most difficult thing I've ever had to go through. But I want to use my experience to help others who are struggling with mental health issues."

Sir Lindsay said that it is important to talk about mental health, even though it can be difficult.

"We need to break down the stigma around mental health and make it easier for people to get the help they need," he said.

The deputy speaker of the House of Commons, Nigel Evans, said he was "truly devastated" by the death of Sir Lindsay's daughter.

"My thoughts and prayers are with Sir Lindsay and his family at this difficult time," he said.
