Outcome Of The Election

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wins a Decisive Victory

Outcome of the Election

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared an election victory as his coalition won a majority of seats in the general election. The poll of 35,801 respondents conducted across India between Dec. 11 and 20, 2023, predicted Modi's party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to win 285-305 seats. The main opposition party, the Indian National Congress, was projected to win 7-9 seats.

Strong Favoritism for Modi's BJP

The outcome of the election was in little doubt, as Modi's BJP was strongly favored to return to power. The party's popularity has been boosted by Modi's economic policies and his strong stance on national security. The BJP has also benefited from the fractured opposition, which has been unable to unite behind a single challenger.

Majority of Seats

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's coalition led in a majority of seats Tuesday in India's general election. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is projected to win 270-305 seats, according to the India Today-Axis My India exit poll. The main opposition Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) is projected to win 60-88 seats.

Third Consecutive Term

Modi's victory marks the third consecutive term for his party. He first came to power in 2014 and won re-election in 2019. His latest victory is a testament to his popularity and the strength of his party.
